Count Your Blessings

get-attachment (43)Blessings are all around us. But, how often do we stop to thank God for them? How often do we find ourselves too busy to even recognize the blessings?

There are days that go by when I don’t take the time to thank God for the things He has blessed me with. I heard a preacher once say, “What if you woke up tomorrow with only the things you thanked God for today.” Yeah…that hit me square in the heart too.

“From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.” –John 1:16

God loves us. He loves us so much that He wants to bless us. He also loves to be thanked for them. During my daily prayer time I start by thanking God. I keep a list of blessings in my prayer journal. It helps to have a visual of all the things I am grateful for. Life gets busy. We run to and fro.

We forget about the things we have because we get so wrapped up in the things we do not have. But, God gives us so much. He wants to be first in our lives.

God made us in His image. He made us to worship, love, and serve Him. Giving thanks for the blessings is the least we can do. When things aren’t going the way we “think” they should we curse God and question Him. But, when things are going smoothly and we get the things we ask for, do we take the time to praise Him? It isn’t hard to do but we forget because we are human and busy.

I write down my blessings for another reason also. That is so I will remember to thank God. Sometimes, when I start to pray I get so caught up that I may not remember to give thanks. I can easily look at my list and remember everything He has done for me. I love to go back and look through my prayer journal to see all of the wonderful blessings I have been given.

Blessings come in many different forms. These are the obvious ones such as my husband, children, jobs, family, friends, etc. But, have you ever thought about the blessings that aren’t obvious? Like having a heated home in winter, being able to have children when so many women suffer from infertility, and being healthy in a time when so many are sick and suffering.

If you really take the time to list every blessing you will be overcome with joy. I did this a while back and it took me over an hour. If you ever have time to do this, I would strongly encourage you to do so.

God has given us so much to be thankful for. But, the biggest blessing of all is the gift of Jesus. He saved our souls from an eternity without Him. He is our Comfort, Strength, Hope, first Love, Savior, and Friend. He loves us in our suffering and He loves us in our pain. He loves us in our joy and gives us blessings even when we don’t deserve them. Thank Him…every day.
