Life Is A Marathon For Christ

get-attachment (41)I have never run a marathon or even a 5k. I am not a runner. I am not even competitive. I’ve thought about all it would take to run a marathon. It would take a lot of practice, great determination, a huge willingness to finish, and lots of endurance. Even if you want to quit on mile 13, your determination will push you to keep moving. Your body may want to give up but your endurance makes you keep moving forward.

Life is a lot like a marathon. We are working toward one goal of getting to Heaven one day. When you look behind and see how far you’ve come, the rest doesn’t seem so bad. Knowing that at the end of my life I get to meet my Heavenly Father gives me endurance to keep going. To keep moving toward the ultimate goal of glorifying God through my Christian walk.

There are times when I feel like giving up. When I just want to walk away and throw in the towel. I mess up and go down the wrong path. I get lost in the things of this world and lost sight of Jesus. I wander, aimlessly, through the crowd. I feel helpless. There is no way I could continue on without God. God is the “lamp unto my feet and the light unto my path.” He is my guide and my strength. As long as I keep my eyes fixed on Him and His plan I will be okay.

I cannot imagine going through life without knowing that Heaven awaits me. My life would feel so empty. Knowing that I get to go to heaven gives me great hope to continue on in my journey. God gave us a map to get to Him. The Bible gives us clear instructions on how to get to Him.

“That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” –Romans 10:9-10

Though we will go through trials in this life and bumps in the road, the finish line is filled with glorious rewards. I know we shouldn’t dwell on the past. But, it is humbling to look back to where we came from. How God refined us to become who we are today. He saw that we were lost in the wilderness. He made the way clear for us so we could follow after Him. We endure many things in life.

Just like a marathon, life is 10% physical and 90% mental. Our mental endurance is a huge part of life. How we feel emotionally and mentally is very important.

In order to endure life’s circumstances we need to have God’s word etched in our hearts. Having a Bible verse handy in a time of need helps get me through many of life’s challenges.

That is why memorizing Bible verses is so important. There are many ways to read scripture. With technology, we have the Bible at our fingertips any time of day.

So, keep going. Keep pushing forward toward the ultimate goal of glorifying God in your life. Getting to spend eternity in heaven is more than any of us deserves. But, because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross we get to enjoy the paradise that He has prepared for us.
