Breathing in Peace

get-attachment (52)

Take a moment, take a moment for yourself. Just breathe in and breathe out. Sit in silence or turn your favorite song on, you know the one, the one that relaxes you as soon as you hear it. Let the dishes wait, let the toys stay on the floor, that email you were supposed to send can wait, and Facebook or Twitter, you don’t have to update just right now. Just live in this moment and breathe it all in. Close your eyes, breathe, and pray.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

As a mom, I know I am so wrapped up in the day-to-day things, to the schedules, and the demands of this world. I forget about somethingI forget about taking time for myself. Even if that means waking up before the rest of my family in the morning, which, can I be honest right now? I cannot wake up before my family in the morning, I have been trying, I need to keep trying. I need to get on that schedule so I can have those moments before my family wakes up.

Let me tell you a little story. My daughter who just started Pre-K on August 20th, has to be at school by 7:50. I should have chosen the afternoon class but I thought if I started this, then next year for kindergarten I should be ready for the early mornings? Right? Ladies, I hope I can next year. I have recently started getting up at 6 am, so I can take a shower, get some reading in, and write in my prayer journal for the day; I want to cover my family in prayer for the day. Well, a couple days last week I struggled with that and today I struggled with that. I long to have peace; that peace in the morning where I can have time with our sweet God and take some time for me.

I googled peace; freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility.

That is what peace means to me, freedom from disturbance. Now, I know some of you are sitting there wondering when was the last time you had that. As moms, we don’t get peace often and when we do, we find other things we should be doing. Which that is not a bad thing, however, if you don’t take that time for yourself, you will get burned out. You will not be the only one struggling; your home, your family, your relationships will suffer from that.

“The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’ Numbers 6:26

I want to challenge you. It’s not the ice bucket challenge, so you are safe…for now ;). However, I challenge you for the next 5 days, take 10 minutes for yourself. Just 10 minutes. Write down each day what you do that gives you peace. See how you feel at the end of those 5 days. Go in it playfully, let our Lord lead you through this. I believe in you. I will pray for each and everyone of you.
