National Regifting Day 2014

Did you know there is such a thing?!? It’s true! On October 24, 2008, Colorado declared December 18 National Regifting Day. We have all experienced the “fruit cake” scenario. Millions of people are thanking you, Colorado…. We no longer have to feel guilty for regifting the very festive sweater Aunt Doreen gave us.

What if we took it a step further…? What if we regifted the one thing worth giving back?  I’m talking about GRACE.

Grace: To get something that you do not deserve, unmerited favor.

Unrighteous anger has many friends…bitterness, pride, unforgiveness, fear, loneliness. However, grace and unrighteous anger will never sit at the same lunch table. How can we be light in this world? Well, for starters, why don’t we extend grace when the world wants us to pick up our pitch fork and start charging the offender because “They did me wrong?!?”.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing”(John 15:5 NIV).

We must meditate on that and see that apart from God, grace is not possible. On our own, we will fail to give grace when the world so desperately needs it.

It’s not a matter of “if” someone makes me angry, I will extend grace to them. Let’s be real… “when” I get angry, I will remember, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:  While we were still sinners, Christ died for us”.(Romans 5:8 NIV)
